Hi All,
In the next few weeks, MTS2 will be moving data centers to a new one, with more powerful machines, and getting rid of some old hardware.
What this means is that, starting this weekend and extending into the next 3 weeks or so, there will be downtime on all of the existing MTS2 servers.
I will commence migrating the data sometime this weekend. Once done, the new servers should be a lot more powerful and a lot quicker than the old.
So, if the site is down - don't worry. :)

You may not be aware, but MTS2 is staffed with all unpaid volunteers. MTS2's staff is not paid for their work except in good feelings and hugs. This is not a job for us, but a hobby.
But because we are all unpaid volunteers means that we also have real lives outside of the site - families, day jobs, school, and other obligations. As much as we would love to spend 24 hours a day working on improving the site, we sometimes need to do other things like eat, sleep, and work, and spend time with our families.
Recently, many of our moderators have needed to spend more time on non-site related stuff like the above. While we still have enough staff to cover the basics like the moderation queue, checking reports, and dealing with issues, there are many other areas that we wish were more fleshed out, but need more warm bodies to help with.
We know that among a user base of so many thousands, with generally around 2500-3500 users online at any one time, there are probably many intelligent people who spend a lot of time on the site who may have the time and inclination to help out. So, we would like to see who may be available to give us a hand with certain things.
If you are an active member who would like to help on MTS2, please fill out the following questionnaire/application and post your answers as a reply to this thread:
1. How long have you been a member at MTS2? You can check your join date on your profile.
2. How much time do you spend on MTS2, S2C, or Sims2Wiki per day? Per week?
3. Where are you located on the globe? Country only is fine - we don't need your home address. ;)
4. What areas of the sites do you frequent the most?
5. What technical skills do you have, if any? Please list anything that may be applicable - this can include Sims 2 modding knowledge, graphics design, HTML/Wikipedia or other wikis/CSS/PHP, or anything like that.
6. What other sites do you frequent, and why? Are you an uploader, affiliated with, or staff for any other Sims 2 sites?
7. What do you think is the main focus and purpose of MTS2? What is this site for?
8. What is your age, gender, and occupation?
9. Boyshorts, thongs, or bikini bottoms?
Posts on this thread which are not questions directly relating to the subject of this thread or answering the questionnaire will be deleted without reply.
If all you do is download and are not really interested in helping, please do not reply to this thread. We are only looking for users who are established members who have skills that would be useful in helping out.
Please note that this is not an "apply to become MTS2 staff" thread! This is for a general helper thing, not staff. Users who are made MTS2 staff are those who have proven through their actions that they are helpful, active, and will fit in well with existing staff. You cannot apply to become MTS2 staff anywhere.
We will review any applications made here and will be contacting those we see as viable candidates shortly to discuss different options on where they would be the most helpful. Thank you! :) |

Hi All,
Coming hot on the heels of the improvements to the download section are some improvements to the journals - namely, that creators now have the option of having a guestbook!
I have made the following changes to the main journal system:
- Creators who have journals, when adding an entry, have the option to mark that particular entry as thier "Guestbook". Each subsequent entry that is marked as a guestbook overrides the previous one, so if you ever find your guestbook getting unwieldy, just start a new one.
- Creators may now delete comments in thier own journals, on any page that shows comments.
- All MTS2 Staff now have the ability to delete comments from journals (previously this was limited to Admins only)
- If a Creator has a journal and the journal has an entry marked as a Guestbook, then this will appear on the users profile page, along with the title and any text they have entered. An example may be seen on my profile page.
- Members have the ability to comment on guestbook entries directly on the profile page.
- If you no longer wish to have a guestbook, just delete the entry from your journal.
As with most things on MTS2, the Guestbooks are totally optional. I hope you like the new system - please let me know if you have any issues with it, or suggestions.

Hi All,
Today sees quite a few backend code changes for MTS2 - as well as the apartment life update, I have devised a new search and filtering method which extends the forum/category system to allow multiple arbitrary search parameters to be attached to a particular download.
The technical list is here:
- Pets -> Cats has been renamed to Pets -> Animals
- All threads in Pets -> Dogs have been moved to Pets -> Animals and assigned a category of "Dogs"
- By Room -> Bedroom/Nursery has been renamed to By Room -> Bedroom
- By Room -> Nursery has been created
- All threads in By Room -> Bedroom/Nursery with a title of "nursery" have been moved to By Room -> Nursery
- Categories "Bedding", "Beds" and "Other object" have been added to By Room -> Bedroom
- Categories "Bedding", "Cribs/Toddler Beds" and "Other objects" have been added to By Room -> Nursery
Most download results are now limited to a maximum of 2000 threads. - Reverted back to old code for now- The front page has been revamped and should work better on widescreen monitors
- Additional Search parameters have been added to the following sections:
- All Lots & Housing sections
- All Body Shop Clothing sections
- Body Shop Skintones
- Body Shop Hair
- Body Shop Facial Hair
- Body Shop Glasses and Other Accessories
- All Buy Mode By Function sections
- All Game Modifications sections
- The Upload Wizard now accepts Apartment Life uploads
- Apartment Life has been added to the user profile
- Lots & Housing -> Apartments has been added to the download section
- A download summary has been added to the threads that contain search parameters.
- Some of the "banner messages" have been incorporated into a rotating message that appears in place of the Site/Tech news
Please note that all creators should double check their uploads to make sure they have the applicable search filters selected. This is to ensure downloaders can find your items! To edit your threads, go to them and click Edit underneath the Download Details box. (You can see a list of your uploads using your profile or via My Feedback)
Until the creators actually update thier items, most of the filters will return nothing... However, as more and more people update then it should start getting back meaningful results.
I hope you like the changes and, as usual, let me know if there are any bugs.
